Dreda Say Mitchell

Dreda Say Mitchell (born 1965) is a British crime novelist. She won the Crime Writers' Association's John Creasey Award for best first novel in 2004 with Running Hot.

She was born in London's East End to Caribbean migrants from Grenada. She grew up in a housing estate and learned to love reading in the local Whitechapel library. She has a degree in African history from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London and a MA in education studies. She has worked as a teacher and education consultant in primary and secondary schools, and as a broadcaster and journalist.[1][2]
